Ingredients Explained: What’s Inside Your Gel?

When you reach for relief, you probably look at the active ingredient first. But what about everything else inside?

At Mantra, we believe the ingredients that make up your medicine matter too. That’s why we took a different approach to the traditional OTC experience—combining trusted active ingredients with a thoughtfully formulated oral gel made for modern life.

Our single-serve gel pouches are designed to be convenient, easy to take, and made without many of the unnecessary ingredients commonly associated with traditional liquid medicines.

Here’s a closer look at what’s inside Mantra Gel—and why it’s there.

Active Ingredients vs. Inactive Ingredients: What’s the Difference?

Every OTC medicine contains active ingredients and inactive ingredients, and they serve very different purposes.

Active ingredients are the ingredients responsible for the intended medicinal effect. Depending on the Mantra product, these include ingredients such as diphenhydramine HCl, acetaminophen, and pamabrom.

Inactive ingredients don't provide the drug's intended therapeutic effect, but they play an important role in the overall formulation. They can help create the gel's texture, flavor, acidity, stability, and consistency.

At Mantra, we paid particular attention to these supporting ingredients.

Mānuka Honey

What it is: A premium honey sourced from New Zealand.

Why we use it: Mānuka honey serves as a key part of Mantra's gel base and helps create the distinctive taste and texture of our formula.

Instead of designing another traditional syrup or pill, we wanted the base of Mantra to feel as considered as the medicine itself. Mānuka honey became an important part of that approach.

Glycerin

What it is: A plant-derived ingredient commonly used in food, pharmaceutical, and personal care formulations.

Why we use it: Glycerin helps give Mantra its smooth, moist gel texture and contributes to the consistency that makes the product easy to take directly from the pouch.

Pectin

What it is: A naturally occurring substance found in fruits.

Why we use it: Pectin acts as a thickener and helps create Mantra's gel-like consistency.

It's part of what allows Mantra to deliver medicine in a format that's different from pills, capsules, or traditional liquid medicine: tear, squeeze, take.

Ascorbic Acid

What it is: Also known as vitamin C.

Why we use it: Ascorbic acid is used as an antioxidant within the formulation and helps support the overall product formulation.

Citric Acid

What it is: An organic acid naturally found in citrus fruits and widely used in foods and pharmaceutical products.

Why we use it: Citric acid helps balance acidity and contributes to the flavor profile of the gel.

Sodium Citrate

What it is: The sodium salt of citric acid.

Why we use it: Sodium citrate works alongside citric acid to help control and balance the acidity of the formulation.

Purified Water

What it is: Water that has been purified to meet appropriate quality standards.

Why we use it: Purified water is incorporated into the formula to help create the desired consistency and composition of the gel.

Natural Flavors

Taste matters—especially when you're creating medicine that doesn't need to be swallowed as a pill.

Mantra uses natural flavors selected specifically for each product, including cherry, raspberry, and strawberry flavor profiles.

They're designed to make taking medicine a better experience without relying on artificial flavors.

Tart Cherry

Our Sleep Gel also incorporates tart cherry as part of its thoughtfully designed flavor and ingredient profile, complementing its natural cherry flavor.

What You Won't Find in Mantra

What we leave out is just as intentional as what we put in.

Mantra's gel formulation was developed without:

  • Artificial flavors

  • Artificial colors or synthetic dyes

  • High-fructose corn syrup

  • Synthetic sweeteners

  • Alcohol

  • PEGs

  • Propylene glycol

The goal wasn't to reinvent the active ingredients people already know and trust. It was to rethink everything around them.

Why Inactive Ingredients Matter in OTC Medicine

Inactive doesn't mean unimportant.

Inactive ingredients influence how a medicine tastes, feels, holds together, and is ultimately experienced by the person taking it.

That's why we believe consumers should look beyond the Drug Facts panel's active ingredient and understand the complete formulation of the OTC products they choose.

Mantra was created around a simple idea: keep the medicine people trust, and rethink the experience around it.

That means trusted OTC active ingredients, thoughtfully selected supporting ingredients, and a portable single-serve gel pouch that requires no pills, no water, and no measuring cup.

A Modern Way to Take OTC Medicine

Medicine has traditionally meant swallowing pills or carrying around bottles of liquid.

Mantra takes a different approach.

Each single-serve OTC gel pouch is portable, pre-measured, and ready when you need it. Simply tear, squeeze, and take.

Whether you're looking for sleep support, pain relief, or menstrual pain relief, Mantra is designed to make everyday medicine fit more naturally into everyday life.

Modern relief for everyday life.

Always read and follow the Drug Facts label. Active and inactive ingredients vary by Mantra product. Refer to the individual product page and Drug Facts for the complete ingredient list and directions for use.
